The passion for traveling was put into my cradle. Not long after Max moved to Canada, he and Lee began planning their goal of living the van life. Van-dwelling, van-living, van-camping, whatever it's called this decade, is not easy. Vanlifers on Instagram tend to be avid outdoors people, but it's mostly the men photographing extreme recreation.
Even with the abundance of land close to Steamboat city limits that allows car camping, police have seen a recent uptick in people sleeping overnight in their vehicles on public property, which is prohibited under city ordinances. This throwback hippie lifestyle seemed to reek of privilege for people who don't have to work for a living.

The lifestyle appears on social media in nearly copycat images: smiles and a dog or two around a campfire, strings of decorative lights strung up above van windows, dinner cooking on a two-burner stove at sunset, surfboards and mountain bikes latched to the personal mental health outside of a van, a silhouette in a yoga position on top of a van, two pairs of bare feet peeking out from a woven blanket, a van's back doors open to a beach or mountain range.
For longer adventures: once again it becomes a lifestyle, there are more costs and planning to do but you'll also go further and discover new cultures and ways of living. It's good to have a YouTube channel that makes it clear what viewers can expect, and the AdventureVanMan channel gives 47,000 subscribers exactly what they would expect from the name.
I feel like this is a whole topic in itself, but much like van life you can go on an adventure for a day or for a few years. As with everything else in the van life, personal preference plays a huge role in what type of toilet you will want to use.
